Trigger Point Therapy

What is a trigger point?

A trigger point is a tension zone in a muscle that causes pain and interferes with the normal function of the muscle, by limiting its normal range of motion, weakening the muscle and, sometimes, distributing the pain to other areas of the body.

How does trigger point therapy work?

By using our hands, we apply a light pressure on the skin in order to locate the taut muscle band or the muscle fibre knots. Then, using either our fingers or hand, we apply a deeper and longer pressure on the tension area in order to cause muscle relaxation.

How do patients react to trigger point therapy?

Since pressure is applied, some patients may feel a little discomfort until the muscle relaxes. In addition to the pain located at the pressure point, it is possible to feel pain diffused to another area of the body.

Why do we use trigger point therapy?

Trigger point therapy is very effective in reducing muscular spasms and relaxing muscular hypertonicity. It helps restore the range of motion of the articulation and facilitates healing.
